This great stretch of fully paved road takes you from the Southern Ocean, to the Timor Sea, bordering the equator. The South Road, as it's called in the Top End, is the Stuart Highway,it's near 3000ks long, not as deadly as she used to be , but still providing plenty of adventure in the real Back of Beyond. The distances out there are vast. In 1998 I sailed from Australia to the Philippine islands, up near Hong Kong. One of my passengers bused from Melbourne to join the boat in Cairns, north Australia. She traveled further on the bus than on the ocean voyage to the Philippines.

Yes there is a lot of things out there, with hundreds of miles of nothing separating them.
There are numerous great travel guides available, and I recommend checking them out carefully to find the ones that suit you best. Check out the deals on Digital Guides. Later I will provide more details on this great road trip.
